Bloggers are always looking to share links on social bookmarking websites and reddit is one of the most common. For blogs on software programming and technology reddit can send quite a lot of traffic if there is quality content on a post/page/website. We post our links on reddit.com and reap good traffic. However there are certain things to be kept in mind when posting content to reddit, in order to get the maximum possible traffic. And here we are going to discuss those.
1. Choose a correct sub reddit
Reddit provides sub reddits or sections to post links/content to. So your link should go in the most appropriate sub reddit, so that it hits the right kind of audience. For example if your post is on php then there is a subreddit called php. There are similar sub reddits, like web_design for web designing related stuff, hacking for hacking related stuff and so on.
2. Post at the correct time
The time at which you post the content is also very important. The ranking depends on how fast your link gets its initial visitors and upvotes. If there is very little traffic in reddit at the time you post your link, then more posted links will push it down before people view it. As a result it will fall down and wont get good traffic.
In my experience the best time to post is around 9 PM IST or 3:30 PM GMT. Around this time traffic from USA and europe is on the rise, so the posted links gets maximum exposure. Once the link gets a few clicks on reddit, it moves from new to hot list and then as upvotes are received, it rises up in the hot list. Higher the position on the hot list, higher is the traffic.
3. Get some upvotes quickly from friends
How fast a link moves up in the hot list depends on how soon it gets upvotes. So try to get some upvotes from friends as soon as possible. Upvotes received sooner have a stronger effect than upvotes received much later like the next day.

And most importantly the post should have good quality and reading material. Otherwise it gets downvoted. So its a good practice to read your own article and fix all sorts of mistakes so that its in its best shape.
